Rock Art at Kilmartin Museum
This special exhibition shares the findings from the 2023 Carnasserie Rock Art Excavations, a project led by Kilmartin Museum in partnership with Archaeology Scotland. Just a short walk from the museum, the digs looked at three prehistoric rock art panels at Carnasserie Farm and explored how they fit into the broader archaeological and natural landscape of Kilmartin Glen.
Open across two galleries for the 2026 season, the exhibition brings together archaeological discoveries, artefacts, digital reconstructions and community stories to show how rock art was made, experienced and understood in the Neolithic and Bronze Age.
Co-curated by Dr Aaron Watson and Dr Sharon Webb, and designed by Steve Keeling this exhibition invites you to look beyond the carvings themselves. Visitors to the museum will discover how archaeology happens in practice, how these markings shaped peoples’ experiences of place in the past—and how they continue to resonate today.
